Sajid Iqbal

Sajid Iqbal is a Senior Investigations Producer at BBC News, with twenty-five years at the corporation reporting on the stories that bind Britain and South Asia.

He began at the Urdu Section of the BBC World Service, where as Desk Editor he coordinated an 18-strong multimedia team across production desks in London, New Delhi and Islamabad. At BBC Monitoring he analysed the media, government and politics of Pakistan and South Asia; in BBC Radio Current Affairs he produced the critically acclaimed series The Deobandis and The Dawn of British Jihad.

As an investigations producer his work has spanned extremism in British prisons and fringe media, unregistered schools, the UK dimension of the Axact fake-degrees scandal, honour-based violence, and — most recently — the organised immigration crime networks behind Britain's fake asylum industry. His reporting has run across Panorama, File on 4, BBC Radio 4, the BBC World Service and BBC News Online, and has led to arrests, prosecutions and regulatory action.

He is also a regular contributor to Pakistan's Dawn newspaper, writing on UK–Pakistan politics and diaspora affairs, and has written literary essays for Naya Daur. He has reported and edited in both English and Urdu throughout his BBC career, and holds a master's in Creative Writing from Birkbeck, University of London, and a master's in French Language and Literature from the University of the Punjab.
